By invitation. Ten men. Ten weeks.

Everything else in the sky moves.

An exclusive, private, ten-week circle for men who have done everything right — and can no longer say what it was for.

You Already Know If This Is You. Recognition: the midlife experience of high-achieving men who reached every professional marker and lost the sense of what it was for — named here as disenfranchised grief.

You built exactly what you set out to build.

The title. The house. The provider role, carried without complaint for years. And somewhere in the middle of having arrived, a question arrived too — usually around 3 a.m. — that no promotion has ever answered:

Is that it?

This isn't weakness, and it isn't a personal failure. It has a name — disenfranchised grief: a loss with no funeral, no ritual, and no permission to mourn. That is exactly why it has gone unspoken for so long.

You don't need to explain it here. You only need one place where it doesn't need explaining.

"Whoever carries over into the afternoon the law of the morning must pay for it with the damage to his soul."

— C.G. Jung

Philosophical foundation: The Polaris Circle is grounded in Jungian depth psychology. Jung held that the second half of life follows a different law from the first — that the strategies of ambition, performance and persona that build a career cannot carry a man through midlife without cost to the soul. The circle's work is individuation: withdrawing projection from the corporate persona, meeting the shadow, mourning disenfranchised grief, and re-orienting by a fixed inner point rather than external achievement.

Who Is Holding This. The Guide: Merlin Lockey, a Jungian-trained guide with 35 years in depth psychology and a British Army Royal Artillery Special Observer background in navigating by Polaris.

Portrait of Merlin Lockey, guide of The Polaris Circle: a grey-haired, bearded man in a blue blazer and striped shirt.

I've spent thirty-five years in the direct study of Jungian depth psychology and the process of individuation — not as an academic exercise, but as my own long descent and return. I hold a B.Sc. (Hons) in Psychology and a postgraduate certificate in Existential Well-Being Counselling.

Before any of that, I trained and passed the British Army Royal Artillery's Special Observer course to advanced level. That meant leading patrols across open countryside at night with only Polaris — the North Star — as a navigation aid: no GPS, no compass, no maps, just pacing and memorizing clear landmarks in the dark.

Both are the same skill, aimed at different kinds of dark: finding the one fixed point that does not move, and holding a course by it while everything else turns.

I'm not your therapist, and this circle is not therapy. I'm the man who has walked this terrain more than once, and is willing to walk it with you.

My name is Merlin Lockey, your guide on the Polaris Circle. I hold a B.Sc.(Hons) in Psychology and a PG Cert in Existential Well-Being Counselling, backed by 35 years of research and experiential integration of Jungian Depth Psychology. I do not offer optimization strategies or career metrics. I provide a rare, highly disciplined container designed for one specific purpose: to help you look past the exhausting demands of your corporate Persona and map the truer, un-lived life that is trying to emerge.

What Ten Weeks Actually Holds. The Work: deep psychological, reflective and purpose-driven frameworks for men — a ten-week descent and return in three phases, pairing live sessions with private asynchronous work.

Three phases. Not a curriculum to complete — a descent and a return, held privately.

Stand-Down

Weeks 1 to 3

Naming what's actually here, without having to defend it to anyone, including yourself.

The Watch

Weeks 4 to 7

A disciplined vigil through the material underneath the numbness — the shadow work, the shame, the grief that never got a ritual.

Dawn Muster

Weeks 8 to 10

Integrating what's been found into a life you're actually returning to — not a different life, a truer bearing on the same one.

Each week pairs a live session with private, asynchronous work you complete alone, at your own pace, seen only by you unless you choose otherwise.

Said Plainly, Because Precision Matters Here. Scope and boundaries: an educational and developmental practice, not psychotherapy, counselling, clinical treatment, executive coaching, or a retreat; unsuitable for acute crisis or trauma needing clinical care.

This is an educational and developmental practice. It is not psychotherapy, counselling, or clinical treatment, and it does not diagnose or treat mental illness.

It is not executive coaching, and there are no KPIs, dashboards, or performance reviews anywhere in it.

It is not a retreat from your life. It's ten disciplined weeks inside it, with a small number of other men doing the same work, and one guide who has done it himself.

If you are currently in acute crisis, or working with a trauma history that needs clinical care, this isn't the right container — and I'll tell you that directly and point you toward someone who can help.

Small, By Design. Structure and format: ten men, ten weeks, by invitation. Enrollment is by private application and conversation, deliberately not scalable.

Ten men. Ten weeks. Nothing about this is built to scale, because this work isn't the kind that survives scale.

Enrollment is by application and private conversation, not checkout. This protects the depth of the room, and it gives you a chance to know this is right before you commit to it.

As much or as little as you like. Nothing here is shared with anyone.
